Feed Reading

If you aren’t using a feed reader for your online browsing, you are probably wasting a ton of time. For you experts, this is old news. But for others it could be life-changing.
RSS feeds (Really Simple Syndication) are like radio for the internet. Except it’s radio where you can pick and choose what you read in seconds.
If you subscribe to an RSS feed on your favorite blog, any new blog posts will be “broadcast” to your feed reader (like Google Reader.)
The reason this is so incredibly awesome is because of how much knowledge and information you can peruse in such a short amount of time. With less “browsing”. Which, for me, means less time wasted.
So, if you don’t already use a feed reader, go sign up for a free Google Reader account right this minute. Then every time you visit a new web page that you’d like to keep up with, you can click on the little orange RSS button at the top of your browser. Boom. Instant time saver.
[Here's what it looks like on this site. See the little orange button? That's the RSS feed button.]
OK, let’s get you caught up: If you haven’t signed up for a free Google Reader account yet, go do it now. We’ll wait for you. Go ahead…..
….Good job. Now, you need your first RSS feed subscription.
A great construction marketing feed can be found at the following site.
If you go the this site, you will find all the latest entries recently posted on blogs about construction marketing. It’s pretty sweet. AND IT’S GOT AN RSS FEED! Awesome.
That means every new post about construction marketing will go directly to your Google Reader. You will be able to browse through the headlines and summaries to pick and choose what you want to read.
Once you’ve subscribed to several of your favorite feeds, the most important thing to remember is to click on “All Items” (in your Google Reader account). This will list all your feed headlines in one place. It’s pretty incredible.
Soon you’ll see how this can save you a whole hour per day if you’re a heavy reader. And you can quickly become an expert on the topic of your choice!
Happy reading.
